The Proof is in the Pudding

It’s been an amazing first year for BTV, but more importantly for the startups it supports.

Which begs the question, what does that saying even mean? Well, we are both about to learn something today. The original version is, “The proof of the pudding is in the eating,” which simply means you don’t know how good something is until you try it. It also should be noted that back when the quote originated, pudding was more like sausage (but that only distracts from the message).

It’s true, you never truly know how good (or bad) something is until you try it. It’s funny, since I was a kid my motto has always been, “You never know until you try.” That philosophy is precisely what brought me to BTV. We had something that looked amazing on paper, but would it translate to the real world?

In our first class of 12 startups, we’ve had 13 customer signings, 15 pilots, 15 betas, and 26 mentor engagements.

Great news reader, the answer is we have some damn fine pudding. You see, BTV is an accelerator unlike any I had seen before. We curate the best of the best startups, bring them together with brokers during intentional programming, and see what transpires. I’m super excited to report that from our first class of 12 startups, we’ve had 13 customer signings, 15 pilots, 15 betas, and 26 mentor engagements. As an entrepreneur of at least seven startups over the past 20 years, I can tell you the best way to ensure product-market fit and ultimate success is to get your product in the hands of your customers and then listen to what they have to say. That is BTV in a nutshell.

And because of that success we’re both excited by the early application activity (applications are open until November 30) for our 2021 class and are also investigating how BTV can capture and release that magic all over the world. So, if you are an insurtech startup with the next great idea, please reach out. If you are a broker, wholesaler, carrier, or healthcare plan/provider, who believes that new technologies are what your future will be built upon, please reach out. It is our vision to be the convener of broker-centric innovation and we have plenty of pudding to go around.
